Southern Crawl

 SOUTHERN CRAWL

The rain's pourin' down and the levee's on the rise.

Cotton fields are a muddy mess.

Sold the coloreds for confederate money,

that useless paper ain't worth a shit.

Long guns booming over Dixie.

Sherman's  marchin' through our woods.

Won't be long 'till they're here for me:

a simple gent who did what he should.

The reigns comin' down and the river's on the rise.

Dixie's crying in the thunder.

One day soon she'll roll over and die,

and the South can crawl from under.

Big guns booming down on Dixie.
Sherman's out marchin' through the woods.
Won't be long and then they're here for me:

Sold the niggers for confederate money,
that useless paper ain't worth a shit.

Big guns booming down on Dixie.
Sherman's marchin' through the woods.
Won't be long before they slaughter me:

-
Plantation's a ruins- Yankees ransacked that,
took the horses, food, and wagons,
then set fire to the barn and shacks.
would've tried to stop them if I could.

MOVING (o)

The time has come when you feel mature.
It's time for you to leave mother bird.
Once you were homesick but now sick of home.
The time is right for you to be on your own.

Let your folks know what you plan to do.
You'll be surprised when they are proud of you.
They'll probably even help you move out.
Then when you're parking, they'll start having doubts.

Finding things you'd forgotten you had-
Old magazines, pencils and pads.
Old warped singles you give to your brother,
With paraphernalia you had hid from mother.

Broken furniture you'd meant to fix.
All the projects you left unfinished.
There just wasn't time for your intentions.
The excuses you had aren't even mentioned.

Don't worry if some things must go to waste.
It's only a start that you can taste.
Every interest will seek foundation.
With Good Will castaways find salvation.

Out with the old and in with the new!
Let yourself grow when you start to move.
Now all of your dreams can hatch and take wing.
The freedom you'll find will mean everything.

WAKE UP (o)

2-26-13111111111111111111111111111

Coffee's flowing through me,
down my throat into my tummy.
It sits awhile and stimulates,
after that it passes through me.
Trying to awaken
   from this dreamless, sleepless slumber,
Splashing this cold water
on my face is such a bummer.

I wonder did I wake up?
Where's the car keys to the pick-up?
My wallet's gone, my watch has stopped
(both of us need to wind-up).
Another morning, just the same,
   another game for the dollar.
I comb my hair, brush my teeth,
put a tie on my blue collar.

Off to work then home again,
do the dishes and the laundry.
I read my books, watch TV,
let my worries start to hound me.
Why stay stuck in within this rut
   when could do whatever.
I could leave security,
hit the road, and start to wander.

The money's here, though insincere,
and I once had a dream.
I say "someday I'll break away!
I'll find out what this life means."
Alas, it seems its just a dream
    someday I will awaken.
My mind will clear, I'll fill with cheer,
   and somehow feel less shaken.

I just hate to have to wait,
I need to let it happen.
It's so easy that it scares me,
I should really get a crackin'.
But I'll wait, procrastinate,
   keep looking all around me
For an answer that's so clear,
   because it's right inside me.

Shawshank Red (formaly AT THE CORNER (o))

FORMALLY "AT THE CORNER"

2-26-13

School children rushed away from speeding trucks
with their cargoes of desperate hard men
hurtling towards a cryptic sign at the end
of the road where man's burdens are sordid.

I sit in a corner of a block far away
where the Klaxon rings home my delusion
of freedom, or sets me forth to task or wait.

Freedom is lost to me.  Once boundless hopes
of youth now fettered by age and bad choices.
I know now what I was never taught to me
that even children are never safe or free.

where the Klaxon rings home my delusion
of freedom, or sends me forth to task or wait.

Freedom is lost to me.  Once boundless hopes
of youth now fettered with age and bad choices.
I've since learned what I was never taught to me,
I know now that children are less than free.

formally "At The Corner"

oooooooooooooooooo
The children in school are locked away from
speeding trucks, which carry cargos of death
towards a mystic stop sign at the end of
the road.  Where man's burdens are unloaded.

I sit at the corner a block away
from the imprisoned children (captives of
society).  I know a clanging bell
that rings the illusion of freedom.

A freedom lost to me.  Once boundless hopes
of youth fettered with age and knowledge.
Now I know what was never taught to me.
I know that even the children aren't free.

Business

2-4--13 1111111111111111111111111111111111

Typewriters type business letters
to the serve the business world.
Copiers ditto triplicate the forms
   that run the written word.
Bosses bossing, but doing nothing-
   it's absurd.
Where do i fit into this plastic molded world?

Assembly workers forget they have hands
do the bit work which machines can't command.
Meanwhile  executives make vacation plans.
with millions of dollars floating to foreign lands,
So as never to reach the hands of the taxman.

It's a plastic pick me up.
     a pill for your worries.
     a bill for your wallet.
     a kill on your paycheck.

Where do I fall into this
   corporate plan?
How do I call myself,
of even feel like a man?
Am I not the only one
   who wonders who I am?
Or could it be I'm just a part
   of I.B.M.?

PLANS (o)

2-23-13

People have to unite someday,
But how to go about it,
   who's to decide?
Each of us individuals
   has the right to say:
"I've been thinking about it
   for a long, long, time."

People hope to pull together,
But as individuals,
   we've  our own right ways,
And accomplish little,
   much easier to
Change everyone else,
   while we remain the same.

People plan to give and take.
Taking everything
   we feel we deserve.
But giving back nothing
   for anyone's sake.
Being simply selfish with
   a lot of nerve.

People try to find the answers,
And maybe we will
   in some future days.
But better to see those answers
   here around us.
And to grasp them, then
   we've no games to play.
