Laid Down (0)

Cold flash of steal behind my back.
Pain, twisted agony, vision fades black.
Knees buckle, face falls foreward, meets the ground.
Head wrenched  to the side by a boot.
Ribs bruised and broken by kicks.
What did I do?  I don't deserve this.

Left on the ground, mistaken for dead.
I'm not, but I feel close to it.
Pain is fading, warmth invading.
A field of grass lies before me.
Am I dreaming?  I must be dreaming!
What is this.  It's nice.  I enjoy it.

I walk barefoot to a brook
Dangle my feet in a pool from a log.
I'm so tired, I should lay down and sleep.
I feel as though I've walked for miles.
I cup my hands, dribble cool water  down my throat.

I'm thirsty!  Oh God, am I thirsty!
Mother!  Why have you forgotten me?
Father! You would never listen to me!
Something is wrong, my vision dims.
My eyes grow heavier for sleep.
I feel faint.  Lay down.  Lay down.

THIRD DATE

We laugh in the park under oak trees
Squirrels play above in branches with glee.
Spring freshness, your eyes, balmy air,
breeze blows, sunshine sparking in your hair.

Holding hands along the boardwalk.
Sunset over sailboats tied to docks.
feeding the gulls.  It's been a nice day
to share as dusk's fingers slip away.

Dancing close and drinks together,
dinner in a secluded corner.
Out of mind, gazing eyes search
to find the thread between our hearts.

Rebound (0)

On the rebound, atop a stool in t singles bar.
Cigarette dangling from my lip, it's brethren
packaged beside my drink, where rests
my hand, anxious to seize another.

Ashes drop to the bar before I light
from the cherry of the predicessor.
Puff, puff.  Puff, puff.  The new cherry glows to life.
I crush the other to smolders in ashes.

The barman's arm crosses my vision.
He snatches up the ashtray, only five
butts in it.  He throws down a clean one.
I think if only I could fill and ashtray to capacity!

Black Russian.   Yes another.  Here, a tip.
I swallow the last of my drink with a gulp.
Warm alcohol strips the tars from my throuat.
I drag again from the smoke.   Throat still feels crisp.

The new drink arrives, the old glass disappears.
I set aside the smoke.  Clasp both hands around the drink.
I stare straight ahead to rows of booze on the wall.
My back faces the faces I usually examine for clues.

I've never felt lonliness when I was here with people.
I've never sat at the bar, always a booth.
A part of me has been severed and is lost forever.
Pain?  Not physical, but emotionally, I'm overwhelmed.

Sea Shell Salad (0)

 3-10-13-  3333333333333333333333333333333
Mother Sea, you've carved the land,
with fine strong fingers and a steady hand.
Your fathomless beauty lures the hearts of men,
Who challenge you just to die in then end.
Your power is overwhelming and infinite.
Yet, you wave at me- grinning bubbling contempt.

A wave whispers in my ear,
telling me things I don't want to hear.
Soft bubbles babble with the land where I live.
Patient  erosion of my refuge from foam.
Mother Sea, womb of life, always breathing,
always alive.  You coax at the downfall of man.

So soft and cold, heartless and mighty,
In awe I respectfully fear your strength.
I reach deep for courage to face you from within.
but know better that all this is in vain,
Countless times I've tried to reach you.
Trials and errors.   You take my breath away.

Yet still my stance is so slow to change.
I climb your mountains to be drowned in avalanche.
I cut your face, you slap me in powerful revenge.
And Yet I continue alone this unifying quest ,
To be at at one, in balance with your power,
Rested in communion with perfection.

I long to see inside you heart.
To understand motherhood's' art.
But I cling to my soil:  a homesick child,
Hoping to yet one day toy with your power.
I persist to struggle towards your outrageous call,
Oh, when it comes to power, you are the original.
